Rotavirus Vaccines in Children
Rotavirus vaccines are vaccines to protect against rotavirus infection. Rotavirus is an infectious disease that mainly affects children aged 6 months to 2 years and causes severe diarrhea, vomiting and fever. In addition, rotavirus infection causes about 200,000 child deaths worldwide each year.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the routine use of rotavirus vaccine all over the world. It can vary from country to country, but in most countries the rotavirus vaccine is usually given to infants between 6 and 12 weeks of age. In some countries, the vaccine may need to be administered in 2 or 4 doses.
It is sold as two different brands in our country. One type is applied twice, while the other is applied in three doses.
Rotavirus vaccines are generally safe and serious side effects are rare. The most common side effects may include mild fever, malaise, diarrhea, vomiting and restlessness. These side effects are usually short-lived and mild.
Rotavirus vaccine helps protect children from rotavirus infection and can prevent serious health problems from occurring. However, the vaccine does not completely eliminate the risk of rotavirus infection. Therefore, it is also important to take other measures such as improving children's handwashing habits, avoiding dirty surfaces and limiting contact with sick people.
